GUISBOROUGH U-15 V MARSKE U-15 SUNDAY 9TH MAY 2010
Guisborough opened their League campaign at home to local rivals Marske. The Fountains Garth ground was in superb condition thanks mainly to the efforts of John and Pat Dunn who as usual were working at the ground very early in the day !
Guisborough won the toss and put the visitors into bat. The Marske innings was held together by opener Alex Puckrin who accelerated his innings to perfection scoring 48 before retiring hurt in the penultimate over. With the next highest scorer being 8 extras Marske mustered 82 for 5 in their 20 overs. Pick of the Guisborough bowlers in their four over apiece were James Fitzgibbon (1-8), James Bolton (1-12) and Jack Levitt (1-5).
In reply Guisborough opener James Bolton top scored with 31 with good support from James Fitzgibbon (18). However, the re-introduction of County bowler Joe Easton proved crucial as Guisborough finished on 77 for 4 in their 20 overs thereby losing by 5 runs.
A disappointing result for Guisborough but a generally good performance overall. The game was played in the right spirit between two evenly matched teams and with some quality cricket played at times.
REDCAR U-15 V GUISBOROUGH U-15 SUNDAY 16TH MAY 2010
Guisborough faced tough opposition in the form of reigning Champions Redcar at Coatham Road.
Redcar batted first having lost the toss. Opening bats and County players Tiler Easton (51 not out) and Sam Berry (35) put them well in control of the game by the mid-point of the innings.
However, the Guisborough lads showed spirit in fighting back well with Brad Passmore taking 4-15 and John Hewson 3-28 in their allotted 4 overs each. Hewson also took a memorable diving catch late in the innings. Redcar ended on a formidable total of 140-9 off their 20 overs.
Against an impressive Redcar bowling attack Guisborough finished on 64-4 in their 20 overs. Main contributions were made by Jack Levitt (13), Dave Wardell (11 not out) and Brad Passmore (22 not out) – the latter completing an excellent debut.
A 72 runs defeat at the hands of one of the worthy title favourites but still some positives to take from the game.
